A masonry fireplace with traditional metal throat dampers are responsible for on average 8% of the total heating cost. The draft metal tarot dampers do not provide a tight seal allowing cold air to be drawn into the home when the fireplace is not being used. The Energy Top Plus chimney damper with spark arrestor is a great addition to lower your heating and cooling cost for any home with a masonry fireplace. The easy spring action damper is fitted with a silicone gasket seal on the lid. When closed it makes an airtight seal that prevents cold air from being drawn down the fireplace when not in use and also prevents the cool air conditioning from going up the chimney in the summer months. The Energy Top Plus damper will also prevent any driving rain and insects from entering the chimney when the damper is closed.

Note: Intended for use with traditional masonry wood burning fireplaces. Do not use Energy Top dampers with gas logs. Failure to open the damper could result in Carbon Monoxide to back up in the home or in the event of a gas leak could result in gas being trapped in the chimney which could result in an explosion.

The Energy Top Plus dampers attach to the top of the flue tile on fireplace chimneys. Our models are sized by common flue tiles and available in 6 Sizes:

Size Fits Inside Flue Size Height of Open Lid
8" x 8" 7" to 9.5" Width x 7" to 9.5" Length 7.25"
8" x 17" 7" to 9.5" Width x 15" to 17.5" Length 7.5"
9" x 13" 7" to 9.5" Width x 10" to 12.5" Length 7.5"
13" x 13" 10" to 12.5" Width x 10" to 12.5" Length 10.25"
13" x 18" 10" to 12.5" Width x 15" to 17.5" Length 10.25"
18" x 18" 15" to 17.5" Width x 15" to 17.5" Length 10.75"

The Energy Top Plus chimney damper with cap is equipped with a 3/4" stainless steel diamond mesh screen which is perfect if you are needing a spark arrestor on the chimney. The extra wide lid will provide superior rain protection in the event of a driving rain.

Installations

The Energy Top Plus chimney damper is easy to install. You will only need a few common tools such as a hammer, wire cutter and a drill with a 1/4" drill bit. Includes 30 ft. cut to fit cable, fireplace bracket, cool-touch spring handle, mounting adhesive, hardware, and lifetime warranty. Simply use the mounting adhesive to adhere the Energy Top Plus Damper to the top of the masonry chimney and lower the cable with the chain spring handle down the flue and mount the chain bracket to the wall of the fireplace. Adjust the chain spring handle to the fireplace bracket and you're done. Pull down and lock the chain handle in the fireplace bracket to close the damper and simply release the chain handle from the fireplace bracket to allow the damper to spring open when you are ready to start a fire.

A little pricey but worth it.

I have an old chimney with the original throat damper that was stuck open. I also noticed a serious draft from the chimney when it is not in use (almost all the time). This was super easy to install on top and I was able to just cut out the old throat damper. I am left with a clean looking solution that I know will save me money and increase the overall comfort of the home. Rockford had the best price I could find. Thanks!
