Product Details

Application: Double wall or triple wall air-cooled chimneys. (Collar Included)

Vacu-Stack is the premier chimney cap (collar included) for solving common, wind-related chimney draft problems. Wind-induced downdraft can cause smoke to enter the living space when: Hills, mountains, tall trees, and or tall buildings are in the vicinity. Vacu-Stack also functions as a conventional chimney cap by protecting the chimney from rain, snow, debris, and animals.

The optional stainless steel 1" mesh screen, used as a bird guard, will never rust and are available for either style of Vacu-Stack caps. The screen will assist against debris and animals from entering the chimney and will help contain sparks.

See how the Vacu-Stack Chimney Cap works. Adapt your Vacu-Stack chimney cap to any standard masonry flue using this adapter.

Optional Tie Down Kit: Easy to install tie down kits are recommended for areas where high wind speeds are a concern. A tie down kit comes with three robust strips of 26 gauge stainless steel, each one measuring 8 1/2" x 1/2", as well as three 1/2" 10-24 stainless steel hex head machine screws and three 10-24 hex nuts.

Vacu-Stack Mesh Screen Installation Instructions

Step 1: Note the Spacers. The three spacers located on the underside of the TDW Air Cooled Vacu-Stack chimney cap maintain ventilation space between the bottom of the Vacu-Stack and top of the chimney. This is essential for uninterrupted air flow through cooling channels in air-cooled chimneys.

Step 2: Fitting the Vacu-Stack inside the flue. Vacu-Stack chimney caps fit inside round metal and masonry flues. Press the pipe end of the Vacu-Stack into the flue until fit is snug.

Step 3: Applying a Watertight Seal. Apply a thin layer of silicone caulking to seal joint between Vacu-Stack and top of chimney. The chimney silicone is an optional add-on for this product. If you are installing on rectangle or square flues, please visit the masonry adapter page.

Huge difference

We have a food truck with a brick oven. With the original cap, if there was any wind, we were getting smoked out. Upgraded to this and it has made all the difference!

Solved my problems

I have a fireplace insert in a house that is about 13 years old. If it was windy I always got downdraft. It was so bad that I have been woken up with fire alarms going off in the middle of the night due to a smokey house. I avoided fires if the wind was blowing. I have been using the Vacu-Stack VSS for about 3 months. No more down drafts. No smell of smoke in the house. I have had fires burning on some very windy days now. Well worth the money. I wish I had known about this sooner. It was about a 15 minute job to remove my old cap and install on triple wall pipe. I did it myself. Very simple. Thank you!

Delivery could have been a bit more prompt (took 6 days from date of the order). Easy to install and appears to be well made. It has clearly improved draw on first couple of windy days after installation. On one particular windy/rainy/sleety night (Nor-easterner in NYC on 12/1) only a slight hint of back puff of smoke was evident. On a night like that I would NEVER have used my fireplace. On the "normal" windy nights (those which I would avoid using the fireplace), the cap works beautifully (virtually no back puff). Exceptional product!

Excellent Quality

This was a replacement for a 30+ year old chimney cap. Some minor modifications had to be made because of the way that the old cap fit on the chimney pipe. This was no big deal, only took about an hour. I'm sure if I had a more modern set-up it would have set right in. The slight vacuum produced by this type cap does seem to have improved the draw of the system. And, it looks great!
