Help & Documents

The Air Cooled WeatherShield chimney cap model assures a secure wind-resistant fit, without interfering with the convection cooling features of air-cooled chimneys. Often times, it's difficult to find the manufacturer of the previous, original chimney cap for the triple wall pipe. This universal, premier after-market chimney cap protects air cooled chimneys / triple wall chimneys from adverse weather and keeps out debris & animals.

An exclusive spring-tension connector assures a self-adjusting secure fit. The spring-tension connector enables WeatherShields to fit either DOUBLE or TRIPLE Wall Air-Cooled Chimneys. The cap features a 4" extension on the bottom of the chimney cap which gets inserted INTO the inner pipe of the Air Cooled chimney pipe.

Therefore, cap sizes are based on the most inner pipe diameter of the Air Cooled chimney pipe. If the inner pipe is recessed down below the outer pipe, or you would like added stability, please see our TallBoy Air Cooled chimney cap.

What Type of Pipe Will This Fit?

Most importantly, if you have an air cooled, triple wall chimney cap that you are looking to replace, you must replace it with an air cooled chimney cap. Putting an incorrect chimney cap on the triple wall pipe could possibly seal off the gaps between the pipe walls. As a result, it would put the pipe at risk of overheating.

To identify if you have an air cooled pipe, you will notice two or three different pipe walls when looking at the pipe from a bird's eye view. Moreover, there wouldn't be anything between these walls, except possibly spacers, that maintain this air gap. Lastly, see images above for examples of air cooled pipe.

Options for Your WeatherShield Triple Wall Chimney Cap

To begin with, an added feature is the removable mesh screen that provides a measure of safety by helping to contain sparks. Available in 1" (standard) or 1/2" mesh. Additionally, these are 100% stainless steel construction to ensure a long life and rust-free performance.

Optional StormShield: Convert your WeatherShield into a StormShield to keep out hard driving rains. This simply replaces the lid on your WeatherShield chimney cap. Above all, this makes it an easy install! It is removable for quick inspection and cleaning. Moreover, wind-induced downdraft can cause smoke to enter the living space and the StormShield will help reduce the effects.

Optional Tie Down Kit: Easy to install tie down kits are recommended for areas where high wind speeds are a concern. A tie down kit comes with three robust strips of 26 gauge stainless steel, each one measuring 8 1/2" x 1/2". Also, three 1/2" 10-24 stainless steel hex head machine screws and three 10-24 hex nuts included for installation.

Additionally, custom sizes are available up to 48".

Sizing and Measuring:

To begin with, these are the items you will want to measure for your new air cooled / triple wall chimney cap.

  • Measure the inner pipe diameter
  • Measure the outer pipe diameter
  • Verify the inner pipe is flush, or as tall as, the outer pipe. If inner pipe is recessed, please see our TallBoy Air Cooled chimney cap.

Firstly, check the sizing chart below to identify the inside pipe measurement. Secondly, check the lid size diameter to verify the lid size will accommodate the outside diameter of the air cooled pipe.

Product Overview Video:

Features:

  • 100% Stainless Steel Construction
  • Installs Easily, Self-adjusting Spring Base
  • Lifetime Limited Warranty
  • Removable Top For Easy Flue Access
  • Easy Maintenance
  • Tested To UL 103 Standard

Installation Instructions:

Step 1: Note the Spacers. The three spacers located on the underside of the TDW Air Cooled WeatherShield chimney cap maintain ventilation space between the bottom of the WeatherShield and top of the chimney. This is essential for uninterrupted air flow through cooling channels in air-cooled chimneys.

Step 2: Assembling the WeatherShield. Move hoop upwards to vertical position and remove wing nut. Center the screen on the bottom plate. Position the top plate so screw at top of hoop passes through center hole of top plate. Secure with the wing nut as shown.

Step 3: Fitting the WeatherShield inside the flue. WeatherShield chimney caps spring fit inside the round metal or masonry flue. Squeeze the bottom of the WeatherShield and push down into the flue to assure snug fit.

Step 4: Applying a Watertight Seal. Apply a thin layer of chimney silicone caulking to seal joint between WeatherShield and top of chimney. The chimney silicone is an optional add-on for this product. If you are installing on rectangle or square flues, please visit the masonry adapter page.

Nice product

Ordered a chimney cap for an old triple wall chimney. This was one of the few companies that had what I needed. I ordered the cap and a custom bent SS chase top. The chimney cap arrived in two days and the chase top in about a week. Very happy wirh the experience and ordering on line was so simple.

Nice and easy

Purchased this to replace a destroyed cap. Measured the opening to be around 6.75", so went with a 7" based on the customer service response. Slipped in just fine. I didn't see instructions for assembly, but it was pretty intuitive overall.
